Cincinnati, OH - The Construction Users Roundtable announced its annual Construction Industry Safety Excellence (CISE) Awards and called upon the industry to continue its progress in promoting construction site safety across the United States.

The Construction Users Roundtable is an association of leading corporations in the United States, dedicated to promotion of cost effective construction methods. The members, as major consumers of construction services across the country, seek to foster improved construction safety performance through recognition of the achievement of excellence and promotion of proven effective work practices.

The CISE program, a continuation of the decade of awards presented by the CURT predecessor organization, seeks to encourage efforts by recognition of safety leaders in all segments of the construction industry.

"These awards, given annually for more than a decade, seek to highlight the achievement of companies which have created world class construction site safety programs and have shown a dedication to the concept of promoting injury-free construction," said Ron G. Prichard of AON Risk Consulting and Chairman of the CISE Awards Committee.

The CURT CISE Owner Safety Awards were presented to Procter & Gamble Manufacturing Co for operating entity, FMC-Solutia Astaris for US project, ExxonMobil Kemya for International project, and Shell-Deer Park as an a US project. These awards recognize the important role of owners in managing the safety performance of their construction contractors in the achievement of excellent results.

CISE Constructor Safety Awards went to eight contractors in three Standard Industry Codes (SICs) recognizing their outstanding safety performances over the past three years. Award recipients were:

SIC 17 (Construction Special Trades) - Mobley Industrial Painters, Inc., Deer Park, TX; Midwest Mechanical Contractors of New Jersey, Inc, Parsippany, NJ; North Suburban Tree Service, Inc, Gibsonia, PA.

CURT is committed to promoting a safer construction industry by encouraging owners and contractors to adapt the principles outlined in The Business Roundtable (BRT) Construction Industry Cost Effectiveness (CICE) Report A-3, "Improving Construction Safety Performance," and other BRT and Construction Industry Institute (CII) safety studies.

"We are encouraged by the many high quality applications this year. The recipients have aggressively implemented safety best practices, with the winners showing results superior to the level of the CII industry benchmark standard as reported for the year 2000" said Prichard.

CURT announced the prestigious awards and presented them with the assistance of Assistant Secretary of Labor and new Director of OSHA, Mr. John Henshaw, at the 2001 National Construction Conference at The Westin Innisbrook in Palm Harbor, Fl on November 13th.
