The Construction Users Roundtable sponsors a Safety Excellence Awards Program for the construction industry. This program, administered by the Safety Committee of The Construction Users Roundtable, is designed to improve safety performance within the industry. This program, sponsored by the owner's organization, is intended to be unique and different from other safety recognition programs and awards already in existence within the industry. The CISE Awards Program is intended to supplement, not supplant, existing efforts on the part of the National Construction Industry
Associations and Local User Councils. Its objective is to impact safety performance in the workplace. The goals of this owner-sponsored safety awards program are to minimize the human pain and suffering resulting from construction accidents, and to reduce the huge annual dollar cost of job site accidents in the United States.
It is the firm conviction of The Construction Users Roundtable that safety hazards and worker injuries on the job site are unacceptable. Members of CURT have a long-standing commitment and moral obligation to provide a safe work environment and eliminate injuries and accidents. The Construction Users Roundtable believes this is a realistic, obtainable goal based upon our conviction that all accidents are preventable, and safety is manageable.
It is the intent of The Construction Users Roundtable Construction Industry Safety Excellence (CISE) Awards Program to encourage greater involvement by National Construction Industry Associations and Local User Councils to improve safe work practices by individual constructors. It is also our intent to improve construction safety management and performance of owner organizations through increased visibility of outstanding safety efforts and results.
The Construction Users Roundtable Construction Industry Safety Excellence (CISE) Awards Program is composed of three (3) parts:
Local User Council Award
An annual award to recognize and reward exemplary leadership on the part of an LUC for the implementation of programs resulting in safety enhancement among their members. This award will be made on the basis of leadership in improving construction site safety, demonstrated through strong programs and effective measurement systems that collect and distribute safety performance data for their member's guidance.
Constructor Safety Awards
Annual recognition awards to individual constructor firms in each of three major construction/contractor Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Code Groups. The awards are to merit commendable safety performance over a three-year period and will be administered through National Construction Industry Associations. Local User Councils may also directly nominate to The Construction Users Roundtable their local safety award-winning constructors.
Owner Safety Awards
An annual recognition awards program for CURT and Local User Council member owners who have most effectively implemented the recommendations of The Business Roundtable CICE Report A-3, "Improving Construction Safety Performance (January 1982), the companion publication, "The Workers' Compensation Crisis - Safety Excellence Will Make A Difference" (January 1991), and several Construction Industry Institute (CII) research studies. The awards program will recognize those firms who most closely emulate the model programs described in The Business Roundtable CICE Report A-3. The most exemplary programs will receive recognition, publicity and national publication.
The Construction Users Roundtable invites all owner members, Local User Councils, along with Constructors and National Construction Industry Associations in the United States, to participate in this program.
